Laptop's Power button is totally broken...can I turn it on by some other means?

Computer is an HP dv6000. About a year ago I noticed that the power button needed to be pushed extra firmly to turn on the computer. Then it needed to be pushed even harder. It got worse and worse until the point where I had to jam a pen or screwdriver into it to get the computer to turn on. Now it is on its last leg and I'm lucky that I got it to work just five minutes ago.

There is also another button that works perfectly to turn the computer on but only brings up "QuickPlay" or whatever application that plays DVDs, etc. I tried escaping from that when it turned on to use windows but it goes into hibernation.

Please someone help! Can I turn on my computer without the power button? Somehow using the quickplay direct button? Will F8 work? read more
